Finish the Race

"I have finished the race."

2 Timothy 4:7

An excerpt from The Coming Glory

Finishing is not always picture perfect. We fall short at times. Our calling in life is not about how we get to the finish line. It's that we finish well.

Think about the times you worked long and well on a project and then experienced the joy of finishing it.

Finish-line-joy related to completing one’s life task was brought home to me in a shocking way. My family had gathered around my father’s hospital bed as he was getting ready to depart this life. As a believer in Christ, he was not afraid of dying. Suddenly, with unusual strength, he sat up in bed, clapped his hands, and with a look of triumph said, “I’m dying!”

Did my father somehow hear “the distant triumph song?”

"And when the strife is fierce,

the warfare long, steals on the ear

the distant triumph song, and hearts

are brave again, and arms are strong.

Alleluia, alleluia!"

However you finish your race, I hope you will approach the end with the faith that enables you to win.

I'd be happy to hear from you. Contact me at dr.swets@gmail.com .
